Session PhotosGreg Adams' Big Band BrassScott Rockenfield Queensryche Drums Greg Adams' Big Band BrassThe following are some simple snapshots taken during the 3 day recording session in 2002 where most of the loops and samples for this product came from. The photos were mostly of the setup without the players since I couldn't really take photos and be engineering the session at the same time. The first shot below shows one side of the setup of the brass section. Saxes were on the right side of the picture, trumpets at the front-left, and trombones were on the other side of the gobos. There is an omin room microphone setup right where the "T" forms with the gobos, and you can see one of the large microphone booms at the rear of the photo (in front of the curtain) that holds one of the high overhead room microphones. Another shot from the same position in the room, but holding the camera up overhead so you can see a little more. In this one you can see one of the U-87 microphones on the high boom used as an overhead room microphone and a bit of the stone panels in this live half of the room that contributed to the room sound. The conductor was at the base of the "T" and he had a microphone for talkback that we also used as a room microphone in many songs. These two shots are from right in front of the drum booth in the "dead" half of the room. Piano and keyboard were back here. Some blankets were used on the piano to minimize bleed from it into the brass and room microphones. The acoustic bass was put into the small wooden booth with glass door (can see a little bit of the booth door in the second photo) to minimize bleed from it as well. In this shot below you can see the drum booth behind the piano with some additional gobos in front of the booth to minimize drum leakage into the brass and room microphones. A photo showing the length of the room, with trombone section in foreground and drum booth in the back. This shot doesn't show much except the omnidirectional room microphone set up in the center of the brass section, and the boom stand for the other overhead room microphone (left side of picture), and a little more of the stone tile wall that gives the room a nice live sound. A shot of the control room and Mitsubishi Westar console. Another shot of the control room and console and the lovely mess of wires in the patchbay. Straight shot of the console with the requisite lava lamps going and the nice Manley stereo compressor. A shot of the vintage military marching drums used for the drum line recording in the "Air Waves" song. Greg Adams is the third from the left in this photo. A couple of shots of Greg Adams (right) and Denney Goodhew going over the charts prior to starting the separate five piece horn section sampling session. Several shots showing the entire five piece horn section used in the separate sampling session. Last two shots also show Executive Producer of the recording sessions, Paul McVicar.
